Seven arrested over engineer’s death in Lagos land dispute

Operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon, Lagos, have arrested seven persons in connection with a violent attack.

The arrests were made in relation to the death of Badmus Monsur, an engineer who was killed during the attack at a Lagos State government-allocated property in the Agidingbi area.

The deceased was reportedly an employee of the Nigercat Nigeria Group of Companies.

The company’s Chairman, Alhaji Akeem Osuolale, expressed concerns over what he described as attempts by some senior law enforcement officers to interfere with the ongoing investigation and secure the release of the suspects.

Speaking to journalists in Ikeja, Osuolale commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the lead investigator, CSP Oyewale, for the swift arrest of the suspects. However, he warned that previous arrests in similar circumstances had been undermined.

“I sincerely appreciate the efforts of the IGP and CSP Oyewale in ensuring that seven people connected to the murder of my engineer have been apprehended,” Osuolale said.

“But we are deeply concerned, as there have been instances in the past where suspects were arrested and then released the same day, both at Alausa and FCID, while some of our staff were still being detained.”

Osuolale also alleged that the group responsible for the attack had repeatedly issued threats against him and his employees, claiming influence over security agencies. According to him, over 25 armed thugs were deployed during the attack that led to Monsur’s death.

He urged Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and ensure that justice is served in the matter.

Efforts to get comments from police authorities were unsuccessful, as officials maintained that investigations are still ongoing.
