Senate’s lawyer denies warning Natasha not to return to NASS

Paul Daudu, SAN, counsel to the Senate in the suit filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan challenging her suspension, has denied writing an open letter to Jubrin S. Okutepa, SAN, counsel to the Kogi State senator, warning her not to resume legislative duties in the Senate.

The purported letter, alleged to have emanated from Daudu’s law firm, Paul Daudu, SAN & Co., had claimed the Federal High Court judgment in Natasha’s favour did not translate to a binding order invalidating her suspension.

However, in a post on his Facebook handle, Daudu firmly debunked the letter’s authenticity.

“Dear Members of the Public, please ignore the purported open letter written to J.S. Okutepa (SAN) making the rounds on social media.

“It is unsigned and not issued by me. I do not know the source of that letter,” Daudu stated.

Daudu described the use of his name and law firm in the unsigned document as a misrepresentation, stressing his professional respect for Okutepa.

In the statement, Daudu, referred to Okutepa as “a father and mentor in the profession.”

He added that in view of his training, he has always restricted his arguments, rightly or wrongly, to the courtroom.

Therefore, he dismissed any suggestion that he would have authored such a letter warning a senior colleague.

The letter, dated July 5, 2025, purportedly advised Okutepa to caution his client (Natasha) from returning to the Senate chamber pending the release of the enrolled order from the court.

The letter allegedly bearing Daudu’s name and signature warned of potential unrest in the Senate chamber if Natasha attempts to return to the Senate without an official court order.
