Security operatives have arrested a notorious bandit leader, Abubakar Magaji, in Sokoto State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and 22 rounds of live ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Silame Local Government Area.

According to a post on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, the suspect, a native of Julirko Village, was apprehended on July 13 by a special anti-kidnapping unit attached to Zone 10 Command.

During preliminary interrogation, Magaji reportedly confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate terrorising Silame forest and surrounding communities.

Following his confession, operatives launched a follow-up operation on July 16, during which they recovered an AK-47 rifle with breech number S-70170 and 22 rounds of ammunition deep inside the Silame Forest.

Magaji also named four other members of his gang, all of whom are currently on the run. Security sources said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and recover additional weapons.
