Security Begins With You, NSCDC Tells Anambra Residents

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, spoke while receiving the Forum of Heads of Federal Establishments in Anambra.

This was captured in a statement on Monday, signed by the NSCDC’s Head, Media and Tactical Operations, SC Okadigbo Edwin.

Speaking to the team led by its chairperson, Ogbonna Blessing, the commandant called on residents to support its efforts by providing timely and credible information to security operatives.

He emphasised the NSCDC’s role in grassroots security and reiterated the Corps’ dedication to safeguarding lives, public infrastructure, and government assets.

However, he stressed that public support remains key in achieving these goals.

“There is little that security agencies can do without the cooperation of the public.

“We encourage citizens to see themselves as stakeholders by volunteering credible information on suspicious activities within their communities,” the commandant stated.

Maku specifically appealed for assistance in combating pipeline vandalism, illegal petroleum product transactions, unauthorised mining operations and the destruction of critical infrastructures.

He assured residents that any information shared with the Corps would be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and that whistleblowers’ identities would be fully protected.

Addressing the group, Olatunde commended it for creating opportunities for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to collectively address challenges.

In her remarks, Ogbonna Blessing lauded the professionalism and dedication of NSCDC operatives in the state.

She highlighted the Forum’s role not only in promoting the welfare of federal staff but also in informally monitoring activities within member establishments.

She expressed the forum’s willingness to collaborate with the NSCDC, pledging that members would support the Corps by reporting any observed criminal activity that could threaten the peace and safety of the state.
