The first cycle of the 2025 Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention campaign has started in Adamawa State.

The exercise is aimed at reducing malaria-related deaths among children under five years of age.

Trained health workers and volunteers mobilized for door-to-door distribution of the drugs across the various local government areas commenced their task Saturday morning.

About 1.2 million children are targeted for the exercise.

The Adamawa State Government had earlier, on Friday, July 18, flagged off the campaign at Luggere Ward in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area.

The Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Bashir Usman Malaria, explained that the malaria prevention campaign through administration of relevant medication on children is vital in protecting the children during peak malaria transmission seasons such as now.

The Chief of Staff to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Dr. Edgar Sunday, who represented the governor during the flag-off, reaffirmed the commitment of government in ensuring that no child dies from a preventable disease like malaria.

During the flag-off, a symbolic administration of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine plus Amodiaquine was done on some eligible children.
