Saudi Arabian monarch, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have conveyed condolences to Nigeria following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In separate official statements issued on Monday, the Saudi royals extended sympathy to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian people, and Buhari’s family.

“Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent a cable of condolences and sympathy to Federal Republic of Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” the message stated.

“The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques expressed deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the president, the Nigerian people, and the family of the deceased.”

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who also serves as Prime Minister of the Kingdom, echoed similar sentiments in his message.

“His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent a cable of condolences and sympathy to Federal Republic of Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” the statement read.

“HRH the Crown Prince expressed deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the president, the Nigerian people, and the family of the deceased.”

Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a UK medical facility at the age of 82, was known for nurturing strong ties between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during his presidency, particularly in areas of religious diplomacy, counterterrorism cooperation, oil policy, and trade relations.

His remains will arrive today at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina and will be buried in Daura, his hometown, in accordance with Islamic rites.
