Sani Rallies Citizens For Mass Voter Registration In Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has launched a massive mobilization drive to ensure that every eligible citizen in the state participates in the forthcoming voter registration exercise, describing it as “a pivotal moment in consolidating democracy and strengthening inclusive governance.”

The Governor’s directive was conveyed on Monday in Kaduna by the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, who emphasized that the exercise was about more than just voter registration—it was about safeguarding democratic rights and giving citizens a stronger voice in governance.

“His Excellency, the Governor of Kaduna State, has directed that no eligible citizen should be left behind in this crucial exercise.

“This is not only about participation; it is about securing the democratic rights of our people and deepening inclusive governance,” Maiyaki said in a statement.

The commissioner explained that the state government was adopting a multi-pronged strategy to ensure no community was left out.

According to him, the Ministry of Information was working closely with the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, the Bureau of Religious Affairs, as well as traditional and religious leaders to take the message to the grassroots.

“We are taking awareness campaigns to every ward, village, and community in Kaduna State. From mosques and churches to marketplaces and town halls, the goal is to ensure that every eligible voter knows when, where, and how to register,” Maiyaki said.

He noted that the state government was counting on the influence of religious and traditional leaders to drive home the message, given their unique role in mobilizing people at the grassroots level.

Maiyaki said Governor Uba Sani had always placed citizen engagement at the heart of his administration’s policies, noting that the voter registration mobilization campaign was another example of this commitment.

“This mobilization drive reflects the Governor’s vision of a people-centred administration, where every voice counts and every citizen has a stake in shaping the future of Kaduna State,” he said.

The commissioner stressed that the campaign was designed to foster a sense of ownership and participation among residents, reminding them that democracy thrives when citizens actively engage in decision-making processes.

“We call on all stakeholders—community leaders, youth groups, women organizations, and civic actors—to rally behind this effort and make participation a collective success,” Maiyaki added.

The state government insists that the campaign is not driven by partisan interests but by a broader goal of ensuring inclusive governance.

Maiyaki pointed out that voter registration was the foundation of democratic participation, enabling citizens to choose leaders who reflect their aspirations.

“When more people register and vote, governance becomes truly representative. It ensures that policies and programmes address the needs of all citizens, not just a few.”

The commissioner also hinted at plans to collaborate with youth and women’s groups, noting that these demographics often face unique challenges in participating in the political process.

“Young people and women are the backbone of our democracy. Their active involvement will make our governance more inclusive and responsive,” he declared.

As part of the campaign, town hall meetings, radio jingles, and community outreach programmes are expected to commence across the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State in the coming weeks.

Civil society organizations and the media are also being courted as partners to amplify voter education messages.

“This is a collective effort.We want to ensure that when the voter registration exercise begins, Kaduna records the highest level of participation in its history,” Maiyaki said.
