Salah Sets Two Records As Liverpool Defeat Burnley

Mohammed Salah set two Premier League records to lead Liverpool to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Burnley on Sunday.

Salah scored the only goal of the encounter from the penalty spot in the 95th minute to hand the defending champions the maximum points.

Salah’s penalty has seen him become Liverpool’s record scorer from the spot in their league history. It was his 35th, overtaking Billy Liddell’s 34.

The Egyptian forward once again showed his importance to the team with another match-winning performance, setting two records in the process.

The strike moved Salah to the fourth position on the Premier League’s all-time top scorers list with 188 goals only behind Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, and Alan Shearer with 208, 213, and 260 respectively.

Salah has also been directly involved in at least 100 more Premier League goals than any other player since he joined Liverpool with 273 goal involvements in 292 PL games for the Reds.

It was another record-breaking day for Liverpool as they became the first-ever in the division to win four matches in a row with winning goals scored in the final 10 minutes or later.

Strikes from Federico Chiesa and Salah in the closing moments gave Liverpool a 4-2 result over AFC Bournemouth on the opening night of the season.

Rio Ngumoha then provided a decisive effort in the 100th minute of a 3-2 victory against Newcastle United, and Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick with 83 on the clock saw off Arsenal 1-0 previously.

Salah ensured the trend continued with a nerveless penalty in the last seconds at Turf Moor.

The Liverpool talisman Burnley was a tough nut to crack but he hailed his teammates for sealing a vital victory.

Salah said: “Tough opponent today, we tried our best to get the ball between the lines. It was tough but I am glad we managed it.

“We have a few new players in the starting line up and it takes time to adapt to our game and we try our best to make them confident in our game.

“We don’t give up. We try and push ourselves to the limit and as a team we did that.”

Similarly, Liverpool coach, Arne Slot admitted that Burnley gave the team a tough time in the encounter.

He said: “Compliments to Burnley for the way they defended. It was difficult for us to find an opening and a few times we were close. If we had scored the game may have been open but because we didn’t they did the same thing. We had to wait until the end phase of the second half and in the final stages we got what we were hoping for.

“There is a chance it will fall in the way you want but it was difficult because they had players behind the ball. We needed a moment of luck, or a moment of magic. We didn’t have the magic but we had the luck. You are hoping and trying to make it more difficult but they were strong.

“Mo Salah for as long as he has been at Liverpool has been good for us. It was a great moment for us because I think he missed the last two.”

Liverpool lead the Premier League table after matchday four with 12 points from four matches, scoring nine goals, and conceding four.

Up next for the Reds is a Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday.
