Sabalenka Defeats Swiatek To Qualify For French Open Final
Aryna Sabalenka earned a 7-6 (7/1), 4-6, 6-0 victory over Iga Swiatek to qualify for the French Open final on Thursday.
The world number one ended Swiatek’s 26-match winning run at Rolland Garros to qualify for her first final.
Sabalenka nicked a topsy-turvy first set that featured eight breaks of serve in a tie-break, before Swiatek hit back to level the match.
She quickly earned a 3-0 lead with a double break with Swiatek struggling with just four points in the opening break.
Swiatek forced a tie-break in the closing moments of the game before producing a moment of quality to seal a deserved victory.
Sabalenka will face either Coco Gauff or Lois Boisson in Saturday’s final in a bid to win her first-ever French Open title.
The Belarusian was delighted to move a step closer to ending her title drought at Roland Garros.
She said: “It feels incredible but also I understand that the job is not done yet. I’m just thrilled with the performance today. What can I say, 6-0 – it couldn’t be much more perfect than that.
“She’s the toughest opponent, especially on the clay, especially at Roland Garros. I’m proud that I was able to get this win. It was a tough match … but I managed it, somehow.”
Sabalenka is now the first woman to reach the singles final in three consecutive Grand Slam events (2024 US Open, 2025 Australian Open and French Open) since Serena Williams (Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, all in 2016).
