Russia’s Overnight Missile Attack Kills 8 IN Ukraine
At least eight people were injured in Kyiv following a large-scale overnight drone and missile barrage launched by Russia, Ukrainian officials said on Monday.
The attack, which hit residential areas and targeted military infrastructure across the country, prompted NATO air forces to respond.
Kyiv’s military administration said the injured were residents of an apartment block in the capital’s Darnytskyi district. According to them, four victims were hospitalized, with one of them in serious condition.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia had launched 324 drones and seven missiles, with Starokostyantyniv in western Ukraine, home to a major air base, believed to be the main target. Of these, 309 drones and two missiles were reportedly intercepted.
However, 15 drones and two missiles struck locations in at least three regions, damaging infrastructure, including a philharmonic hall in Kropyvnytskyi.
In response to the scale of the assault, NATO aircraft, including Swedish JAS 39 Gripen jets stationed in Poland, were deployed. Poland’s military confirmed its radar and air defence systems were placed on high alert for several hours.
On the front lines, Ukrainian forces reported 153 combat clashes in 24 hours in repelling Russian assaults from multiple directions.
Ukraine also claimed to have struck a Russian ammunition depot, while Russia said its forces had destroyed several Ukrainian supply depots and intercepted 72 Ukrainian drones over its territory and the Sea of Azov, claims that could not be independently verified.
Andriy Yermak, head of the president’s Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office, described the attacks as further proof of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to pursue peace.
In a post on Telegram, he said the assault “shows how Putin responds to calls for ceasefire.”
Yermak called for tougher sanctions and continued Western support and reiterated the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses and closing the funding gap for drone production.
“Restoration and rescue work is underway everywhere it is needed,” he said, noting particular concern for damaged energy infrastructure and support for the injured.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to meet in Scotland today (Monday).
Part of their planned discussion is reported to include a possible push to bring Putin to the negotiating table within 50 days.
