Russia Slams Trump’s Decision To Resume U.S. Arms To Ukraine
President Donald Trump’s pledge to resume U.S. weapons deliveries to Ukraine has sparked a sharp reaction from Russia, which warned that the move would only fuel further escalation in the over three-year-long war.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said America’s renewed arms support to Ukraine “obviously contradicts any effort toward peace” and accused the U.S. of deepening the conflict rather than working toward resolution.
Trump, speaking at the White House late Monday, said Ukraine was “getting hit very, very hard” and emphasised the need to supply “more defensive weapons” to help the country protect itself from intensifying Russian attacks.
“We’re going to have to send more weapons,” Trump said, adding that he remained “not happy” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The decision followed a brief suspension of military shipments announced last week, which reportedly left Ukrainian officials scrambling for clarity amid mounting aerial bombardments from Russian forces.
According to U.S. media outlet Axios, Trump has authorised the delivery of 10 additional Patriot missile systems, a high-demand asset amid Russia’s record-setting drone and missile barrages, including more than 500 drones launched in a single wave last week.
Russia, meanwhile, claimed new battlefield advances, including the capture of Dachne, a village in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region.
If confirmed, it would mark Russia’s first territorial gain in that industrial heartland after months of grinding offensives. Ukraine’s military, however, maintains that its forces repelled Russian attacks in the area.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stressed that air defence remains his country’s “top priority” and has welcomed Trump’s latest move after a July 4 phone call the Ukrainian leader described as “extremely productive”.
AFP reports that the U.S. Pentagon, which had paused certain shipments due to stockpile concerns, now says the resumed aid will “ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace.”
Yet Russia’s recent attacks, including strikes on military recruitment centres and infrastructure, signal that Russia is far from scaling back its offensive.
Ukrainian officials have also reported new agreements with Western partners for the mass production of drones, including U.S.-backed interceptor models to bolster their air defences.
