Russia Ignores Trump, Launches Fresh Attacks On Ukraine
Russia has launched another deadly wave of attacks on Ukraine overnight, ignoring a public plea from U.S. President Donald Trump for Russian President Vladimir Putin to “STOP!” the violence.
According to CNN, at least eight people were killed in fresh drone strikes across multiple Ukrainian cities just hours after Trump expressed his frustration over the ongoing war and urged for peace.
The strikes follow Thursday’s brutal bombardment, which was described as Russia’s deadliest assault on Ukraine in over a year.
In Pavlohrad, a city in eastern Ukraine, a drone attack killed three people, including a 76-year-old woman and a child, injuring at least 10 others, according to Dnipropetrovsk Governor Serhiy Lysak.
In southern Ukraine, strikes on Kherson claimed two more lives and damaged both infrastructure and homes, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.
Additional deaths were reported in Donetsk and Kharkiv, bringing the total toll from the latest round of attacks to at least eight.
Thursday’s massive assault focused on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, killing 12 people and injuring 87, according to emergency services. Rescue efforts have concluded at a destroyed residential block, reportedly hit by a North Korean-supplied ballistic missile.
The continued bombardment came despite Trump’s Thursday post on Truth Social, where he demanded an end to the violence and said he was “not happy” with the lack of progress on peace.
Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is scheduled to arrive in Moscow for further discussions with Putin in a bid to accelerate peace efforts.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told CBS News that Moscow is open to a deal but emphasised that key issues remain unresolved.
Meanwhile, tensions have grown between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, particularly over Crimea.
Trump recently criticised Zelensky for his recent comments, where he refused to recognise Russia’s control over the Crimea.
The Trump administration reportedly floated the idea of recognising Crimea as Russian territory. The proposal has caused concern among European allies.
