Top-flight Serie A side AS Roma have sacked their coach Daniele De Rossi after he failed to pick up a win in four games, drawing three and losing one game at home to Empoli.

His sacking was announced in a statement issued by the club on Wednesday which noted that the decision to sack De Rossi was arrived at in the interest of the team.

AS Roma also noted in the statement that the move to sack the coach was made by the club to be able to promptly resume the desired path at a time when the season is still at its beginning.

The statement by the club reads; “The club’s decision is taken in the interest of the team, to be able to promptly resume the desired path at a time when the season is still at its beginning.

“To Daniele, who will always be at home in the Giallorossi club, a heartfelt thanks for the work carried out in these months with passion and dedication.”

The club is currently 16th in the Serie A standings following their 1-1 draw at Genoa on Sunday which eventually led to the sacking of De Rossi who was appointed manager in January to replace Jose Mourinho, who is currently at Fenerbahce in Turkey.
