The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, aka Power Sharp, for allegedly macheting his 44-year-old girlfriend, Miss Confidence Konebari Sunny, to death.

The Police said the suspect hails from Ogbo Hill in Abia State, adding that the incident occurred in July 2025 in the Umuebule Community, Etche Local Government Area, sparking widespread outrage and concern.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement on Tuesday, the suspect fled to Egbeta village in Edo State after committing the heinous crime.

She explained that not only did the suspect attempt to escape justice, but he also began issuing threats to the victim’s family members, boasting that he could still harm them without consequences.

According to her, “However, the operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, utilising technical intelligence, tracked and arrested the suspect on August 15, 2025, in his hideout.”

She added, “The police received a formal complaint from the victim’s family, which prompted the Commissioner of Police to assign the case to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

“The operatives swiftly swung into action, locating and arresting the suspect in his hideout.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing details of the events leading to the murder.”

She noted that evidence is currently being collected, and the suspect is undergoing further investigation and profiling for potential involvement in other related crimes.

She said the police are determined to ensure that justice is served, and the suspect will face prosecution upon completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the swift response and diligence of the operatives for apprehending the suspect.

He emphasised that Rivers State will never be a safe haven for criminals, assuring the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring justice and public safety.

The CP warned perpetrators of heinous crimes to desist from such acts, as the long arm of the law will catch up with them within the shortest time possible and make them face the full wrath of the law.
