Rivers LG poll: RSIEC releases list of candidates

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, has released the list of candidates who were successful in the screening exercise for the August 30 local government elections.

The screening exercise held from Friday, 8th August to Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Commission’s state headquarters in Port Harcourt.

In a statement, the RSIEC Chairman, Chief Electoral Commissioner Michael Ekpale Odey, urged political parties and candidates to visit the headquarters to verify the names displayed on the Commission’s notice board.

The statement added that the names of the successful candidates were published on Friday, 12th August, 2025, in accordance with the revised election timetable.

The LG polls, which were initially scheduled for August 9, were rescheduled by RSIEC, citing the political crisis in the state.

The electoral process has been criticized by many, some of whom say the Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has no constitutional powers to conduct elections.
