Rivers Assembly Gives Governor Fubara 48-Hour Ultimatum To Present 2025 Budget

The Rivers State House of Assembly has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara a 48-hour ultimatum to present the 2025 budget to the lawmakers.

This directive was made during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday, marking the Assembly’s first sitting after the Supreme Court’s historic judgment.

The judgment, delivered last week, ordered Martin Amaewhule and his colleagues to resume sitting as legitimate members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

This move brought an end to the months-long leadership tussle within the Assembly, where two sets of lawmakers had laid claim to the legislative body.

Recall that Governor Fubara had previously signed the ₦1.1tn 2025 Budget into law on January 2nd, after presenting it to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led lawmakers.

However, the Assembly’s latest demand has added a fresh layer of complexity to the political landscape in the oil-rich state.

The budget dubbed the “Budget of Inclusive Growth and Development,” is now at the centre of attention, with the Assembly seeking its presentation within the stipulated 48-hour timeframe.

The outcome of this ultimatum may have significant implications for the state’s governance and development.
