Reps Panel Summons Rivers Administrator Ibas

The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee overseeing the emergency rule in Rivers State has summoned the state’s sole administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.
Ibas is expected to appear before the 21-member panel on Thursday at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
The committee, which was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.
Rising from its inaugural meeting, the committee resolved to invite the administrator for briefing on the situation in Rivers State since he assumed office following the declaration of emergency rule by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2025.
A statement on Wednesday by the spokesman of the House, Akintunde Rotimi, the meeting is meant to review ongoing developments in the state.
Rotimi cited Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution to back the committee’s legislative oversight in Rivers State.
The chairman of the 21-member committee, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, said the scheduled engagement with the administrator is crucial.
According to him, it will shed light on the actual state of affairs in Rivers State and to also ensure the House is well-informed on its mandate.
“The Sole Administrator is expected to appear before the Committee on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM, in Room 414, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
“A formal letter of invitation has been sent and acknowledged accordingly. This public announcement serves to reinforce transparency in the Committee’s proceedings.
“The Committee reiterates its commitment to fulfilling its duties with diligence, transparency, and strict adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Ihonvbere said.
