Reps Approve Emergency Rule As Senate Holds Closed Session

House-of-Representatives

The House of Representatives has approved the declaration of an emergency rule in Rivers State, as proclaimed by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday.

This is just as the Senate retreated into close session to consider the President’s request for approval.

The emergency rule in Rivers is to last for six months in line with the president’s declaration. A sole administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has already resumed duties.

The president’s declaration swept the Rivers governor, Siminalayi Fubara and deputy, Ngozi Odu, off their seats. The state assembly was similarly suspended.

The House approved the President’s request through a voice vote at Thursday’s plenary session.

However, the Senate was still in close session as of the time of filing this report.
