Remo Stars earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Shooting Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday to move a step closer to winning their first-ever NPFL title.

The Sky Blue Stars emerged victorious in the South West derby to dent the host’s continental aspirations.

Alex Oyowah scored the only goal of the encounter with a glancing header from Ishmael Sodiq’s cross on the half-hour mark.

The win maintained Remo Stars’ seven point lead over second-placed Rivers United with four matches to go.

In Port-Harcourt, Rivers United recorded a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars to put pressure on Remo Stars. Suleiman Abba scored the only goal in the 84th minute.

Newly-promoted Ikorodu City moved up to third with a 1-1 draw against El Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri.

Emmanuel Solomon gave the visitors the lead in the 41st minute before Sama’ila Bello equalised for El-Kanemi Warriors.

Bayelsa United, and Niger Tornadoes battled it out for a 1-1 draw in Kaduna.

Sunday Williams put Niger Tornadoes ahead just before halftime Rabiu Abdullahi restored parity for Bayelsa United to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches.
