PZ Cussons Nigeria Swings to ₦16.6bn Profit, Rebounds from 2024 Loss

PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc has published its audited financial statements for the fiscal year ending 31 May 2025, revealing a pre-tax profit of N16.6 billion.

This represents a significant recovery compared to the N122.4 billion loss reported in 2024, attributed to increased revenue and a sharp decline in foreign exchange losses.

The company’s revenue climbed to N212.6 billion from N152.2 billion, primarily driven by the home and personal care segment, which generated N126 billion, alongside durable electronic appliances contributing N86.5 billion.

Despite this growth, costs also escalated. Cost of sales surged by 57.9% to N154.9 billion from N98.1 billion, yet the firm still achieved a gross profit of N57.7 billion, marking a 6.6% increase.

Operating expenses rose as well, with selling and distribution costs up 35.3% to N17.8 billion, and administrative expenses increasing 37.6% to N14.7 billion.

The most notable improvement came from foreign exchange losses, which plummeted from N157.9 billion in 2024 to just N7.7 billion in 2025.

This significant reduction transformed the group’s operating result into a profit of N18.9 billion, a stark contrast to the previous year’s N124.4 billion loss.

Finance costs slightly decreased to N3.6 billion from N4 billion, further bolstering pre-tax profit to N16.6 billion.

On the balance sheet, total assets increased to N168.9 billion from N157 billion, with current assets making up N118.4 billion. Liabilities rose to N186.2 billion, mainly due to trade and other payables totalling N105.1 billion.

Although the company’s equity remained negative at N17.3 billion, this was an improvement from the N27.5 billion deficit recorded in the prior year. Accumulated losses of N38.7 billion continue to weigh heavily on the equity base.

Key financial highlights include:

Revenue: N212.6 billion, up 39.66% year-on-year

Cost of sales: N154.9 billion, up 57.89% year-on-year

Gross profit: N57.7 billion, up 6.61% year-on-year

Selling and distribution expenses: N17.8 billion, up 35.34% year-on-year

Foreign exchange loss: N7.7 billion, down 95.07% year-on-year

Pre-tax profit: N16.6 billion, up 113.60% year-on-year

Total assets: N168.9 billion, up 7.54% year-on-year

As of market close on 4 September 2025, the company’s shares traded at N32.00, reflecting a year-to-date gain exceeding 31%. The stock began the year at N24.30, dipped to N23 in January, surged 53.91% in February to N35.40, rallied again in June and July, reaching N43, before retreating to N32 by early September.
