Probe Anambra Police Station, Civic Centre Attacks, Govt Told

The Federal Commissioner representing Anambra State at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Rev Ukadike Ibeabuchi, has called for a probe into the attacks on the Oba Community Civic Centre and the police station of Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Rev Ukadike, a native of Oba, expressed shock over the attack, adding that the Oba Community Civic Centre and the police station cost a lot of money to be put in place.

He stated, “I heard that the two facilities were set ablaze in the wee hours of Tuesday and a police corporal killed in the process.

“It is unfortunate that such a barbaric attack will happen at a time when the people in the area are enjoying a peaceful atmosphere restored as a result of watertight security put in place by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

“My people of Oba now live in fear. That is why it is necessary to set up a high-powered discreet investigation panel as a means of fishing out the perpetrators of this dastardly act to face the wrath of the law.”

He said there was the need to fish out the perpetrators and prosecute them to serve as a deterrent to would-be future offenders.”

Our correspondent reports that at about 3 am on Tuesday, gunmen invaded Oba Community and set the community’s civic centre and a neighbouring police station, both in Idemili South Local Government Area, ablaze.

A police corporal was also killed in the process.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, had condemned the act, describing the invasion of security facilities as “hostility toward security agents”.
