President Tinubu commends religious bodies for promoting peace and unity at Lutheran church leadership event

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended religious institutions in Nigeria for their significant contributions to peace and tolerance across the country.
Speaking at the Opening Workshop of the African Lutheran Church Leadership Consultation in Abuja, Tinubu, represented by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), emphasized the importance of collaboration between religious bodies and the government in fostering national development.
In his address, Tinubu highlighted the vital role played by the Lutheran Church of Christ in promoting unity through its message of peace and tolerance.
He acknowledged the church’s efforts in maintaining tranquillity amid the numerous challenges Nigeria faces.
Tinubu noted that the work of religious organizations like the Lutheran Church contributes significantly to the stability of the nation.
“I want to specially acknowledge the immense contributions of the Lutheran Church of Christ to the development of our dear country, particularly in the areas of praying and preaching the message of peace and tolerance,” Tinubu said.
The consultation, which spans five days, brings together leaders of the Lutheran World Fellowship (LWF) to share experiences and strategies for fostering unity.
Rev. Dr. Yonas Dibisa, Vice-President for Africa at LWF, thanked the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) for its hospitality in hosting the event.
He encouraged participants to use the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss solutions to challenges faced in deepening unity amidst Nigeria’s diversity.
The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, also delivered a goodwill message, urging the church to continue serving as agents of transformation.
He emphasized the importance of using unifying language that strengthens societal bonds and fosters inclusivity.
In his welcome address, Rev. Dr. Musa Panti Filibus, Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, reiterated the church’s dedication to fostering unity in diversity.
He expressed hope that the gathering would strengthen the church’s mission of building peaceful and cohesive communities.
The event marks a significant step in the ongoing partnership between the Nigerian government and religious institutions, with a shared goal of promoting peace and national cohesion.
