Power Restored At Kings College After 8 Months Of Darkness

After over eight months of power outage, electricity has been restored to the King’s College, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, following the intervention of the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa.

Recall that the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, paid an unannounced visit to the College last week where he found the untidy environment and power outage in the school worrisome.

The minister had promised to intervene in the matter and ensure that power is restored in the school.

In a post on his X Platform on Thursday, the minister disclosed that he had reached out to Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, Chairman of Eko Disco to re-establish the school’s connection.

He disclosed that after his intervention, the King College’s Principal called him to inform him that the light had been restored to the school.

“On Thursday, 13th February 2025, I conducted an unannounced visit to King’s College Main Campus, TBS, Lagos.

“Upon inspection, aside from the unhygienic state of the school, I observed a complete lack of electricity across the campus. According to the Principal of King’s College, the school has been disconnected from its usual electricity provider, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco), for several months.

“This has resulted in the absence of electricity during school hours, with the school’s generators being used only at night, making conditions extremely difficult. No child should have to learn in such an environment.

“To address this issue, I reached out to Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, Chairman of Eko Disco to re-establish the school’s connection. Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh, CEO of Eko Disco, has confirmed that the company has begun the testing process to restore the school’s electricity supply.

“I’m pleased to announce that as of last night, Tuesday 19th February, King College’s Principal reported that light was restored to the Main campus.

“The Federal Ministry of Education remains steadfast in its commitment to upgrading the infrastructure and learning environments of all schools across the country, not just in Lagos State.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to Dr. Olowolafe for his swift action, as well as to Mrs. Momoh and her team for their prompt response!” he posted.
