Port Harcourt Remains Peaceful Amidst State Of Emergency
Despite the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, remains relatively peaceful.
Reports from the government house indicate that two police armored tankers are stationed at the entrance, a usual sight.
However, The Whistler gathered that security guards at the government house have been replaced.
Military personnel were deployed to the government house last night but left early this morning.
As of 10 am, vans of military and police officers were patrolling the city in a show of force.
The whereabouts of Governor Siminalayi Fubara remain unclear, with sources inside claiming he had left the government house early in the morning, while another source spotted him at the government house around 11 am.
It’s also reported that the governor was holding meetings as late as 10 pm yesterday.
Meanwhile, it was learned that the Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas, is waiting for the ratification of the National Assembly before resuming his duties.
The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State has been a subject of controversy, with many questioning the President’s authority to remove elected officials.
