The Edo State Police Command, on Friday, confirmed the rescue of Rev Father Philip Ekeli, who was kidnapped alongside a seminarian, Peter Andrew, from the St Peter Catholic Church in Iviukha, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, on March 3, 2025.

The police were, however, silent on the status of the seminarian.

Some newspapers (not THE WHISTLER) reported on Friday that Andrew had been killed, while the parish priest, Ekeli, regained freedom at about 4:30 am on Friday.

Speaking to THE WHISTLER on Friday, the Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moses Joel Yamu, confirmed the priest’s rescue.

Asked about the seminarian, Yamu promised to provide further information later.

Ekeli regained freedom nine days after abduction, however, uncertainty surrounds the fate of the seminarian.
