Police ‘Not Aware’ Of VDM’s Arrest At GTBank

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command said it is unaware of the arrest of popular social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), contrary to claims by his lawyer who said he was apprehended at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Abuja.

VDM was reportedly arrested on Friday, May 2, at the GTBank branch in Area 3, Garki, Abuja, following an allegation against the bank.

On Thursday, VDM took to his Instagram page to call out GTBank for allegedly approving a loan using his mother’s National Identification Number (NIN) without her knowledge.

“If GT-BANK can do this to my mother then they are doing it to a lot of Nigerians. How can you say someone used my mother’s NIN to collect loan? Like how? Where is your customer security? Which account did you credit when you approved the loan @gtbank?,” he wrote alongside a video post

Confirming the arrest on Friday, human rights lawyer and VDM’s legal counsel, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, stated via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, “JUST IN: VDM arrested by the police at GTB. Spoke to them before he was arrested. This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.”

In a follow-up post, Adeyanju added that VDM was taken alongside a friend, identified as C Park, but that his mother, who was present, was not detained.

Adeyanju wrote, “A team of policemen arrested VDM at GTB. He was arrested with his friend C Park but they left his mom alone.”

We will sue GTB and the security agencies responsible for the arrest of VDM if he’s not released with immediate effect.

However, when THE WHISTLER contacted the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, she said she was unaware of the arrest.

“Madam I don’t know what you are talking about. I don’t know what you are talking about please,” Adeh said, stressing that the command was “not aware” of it.

As of the time of press, GTBank has not issued any statement to address the allegations made by VDM or the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

Efforts to reach the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters and GTBank for further comments have been unsuccessful.
