Police Nab Suspects Allegedly Recruiting Girls To Ghana For Prostitution
The Lagos State Police Command has busted a trans-border trafficking syndicate responsible for recruiting and transporting young girls to Ghana for prostitution.
Eleven victims have been rescued, and four suspects are now in police custody.
The spokesperson of the command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed this on Friday, said the operation began on Wednesday (August 13), when officers from the Ilemba Hausa Division intercepted one Mustapha Abubakar, a suspected motorcycle operator and recruiter, who was found in possession of a 15-year-old girl.
The minor was reportedly being trafficked to Ghana for sexual exploitation.
Following his arrest, the case was transferred to Special Squad I of the Command.
Acting on intelligence, officers launched a swift and coordinated manhunt, resulting in the arrests of three additional suspects: Charles Chima, 54, at Amuwo Odofin; Emmanuel Nwaka, 36, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway; and Princess John, 21, at Ojota.
All four suspects are believed to be part of an organised network involved in human trafficking.
“On August 13, 2025, operatives of Ilemba Hausa Division intercepted and arrested one Mustapha Abubakar ‘m’, suspected to be an okada operator and recruiter, in possession of a 15-year-old female victim who was on the verge of being trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.
“The case was, thereafter, transferred to the Special Squad I of the Command, which, supported by actionable intelligence, launched a swift and coordinated manhunt that led to the arrest of Charles Chima ‘m’ aged 54, at Amuwo Odofin, Emmanuel Nwaka ‘m’ aged 36, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and Princess John ‘f’, aged 21, at Ojota.
“Investigation revealed that all arrested suspects are part of the criminal network that recruits and traffics young women from Nigeria to Ghana,” Hundeyin said in a statement.
Further investigations led to the rescue of ten more victims, all women aged between 21 and 29.
The victims are currently receiving protective care and necessary support.
Hundeyin stated that arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families.
“All rescued persons are now in protective care, receiving the necessary support and assistance, while arrangements are being made to reunite them with their families,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, praised the professionalism and prompt action of the operatives involved.
He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for human trafficking and exploitation, calling on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
The suspects are said to be cooperating with ongoing investigations by the police aimed at uncovering the full scope of the trafficking ring.
