The Kano State Police Command on Saturday said it resolved two major criminal cases involving alleged vehicle theft and fraudulent transactions in separate incidents within the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Haruna Kiyawa, said a female resident of Sharada Quarters reported that she entrusted her Mercedes-Benz vehicle (Reg. No. BWR-442 Abuja) to 42-year-old Abubakar Yakubu for air conditioner repair on Thursday, August 28, 2025,

Instead of returning the car, “Yakubu allegedly fled with it,” the complainant said.

Following the complaint, Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, deployed tactical teams to track the suspect.

The teams arrested Yakubu and recovered the Toyota Corolla he acquired after allegedly selling and swapping the stolen Mercedes-Benz in Kaduna State. Investigators discovered that Yakubu added N7m to the alleged fraudulent exchange.

Police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace and recover the original Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

In a separate case on Monday, August 25, 2025, police received a report from a 48-year-old resident of Mariri Quarters.

The complainant alleged that one Ibrahim Garba from Kaduna State offered to sell him a Toyota Corolla.

After agreeing on a price of ₦2.2m, the buyer paid in full and took the car for a test drive.

During the drive, unidentified individuals chased him while shouting “thief,” raising doubts about the legitimacy of the transaction.

Kiyawa said the police have since “impounded the vehicle and opened investigations” to determine its true ownership and the circumstances surrounding the sale.

Commissioner Bakori assured residents that the Command is committed to protecting lives and property, stressing that perpetrators of criminal activities will be brought to justice.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
