The Imo State Police Command, in partnership with the Alliance for Africa Initiative, has successfully retrained 30 Gender Desk Officers—drawn from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and various police divisions across the state—during a specialized capacity-building workshop.

According to the Commands Spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the training, which took place at Rockview Hotel, Owerri and was themed “Systematic Approaches to Addressing Sexual Harassment in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.”

He said the retraining was focused on equipping officers with modern tools and survivor-centered strategies for responding to sexual harassment within educational institutions and emphasis was placed on professionalism, empathy, confidentiality, and inter-agency collaboration.

On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, the Officer in Charge of the Gender Desk Unit at the State CID expressed appreciation for the collaboration with the Alliance for Africa Initiative. She highlighted that the retraining is in accordance with the Inspector-General of Police’s objective to establish gender-sensitive policing throughout the country. Furthermore, she reiterated the Command’s dedication to fostering safe and supportive educational settings in tertiary institutions across the state.

The Command commended Mrs. Iheoma Obibi and her team at the Alliance for Africa Initiative for their commitment to social justice and assured residents and academic communities of its unwavering resolve to promote safe and supportive learning environments across the state.
