Police Foil Robbery In Lagos, Recover Gun, Charms As Suspects Flee

Operatives of the Alausa Division of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled a robbery attempt on a commercial tricyclist along Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja, recovering a firearm and other weapons left behind by the suspects.
The police, who were on routine patrol, reportedly spotted three assailants attempting to forcibly dispossess a tricycle operator of his vehicle. On sighting the approaching patrol van, the suspects fled the scene in different directions, abandoning a black bag in the process.
The spokesperson of the Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said a search of the bag revealed a Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, a cutlass, a knife, and assorted charms believed to be used for protection or intimidation during criminal operations.
“Operatives of the Alausa Division of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled an attempted robbery on a tricyclist of his tricycle on the Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja. The operatives who were on a routine surveillance patrol spotted a male tricycle operator being forcefully dragged by three assailants attempting to dispossess him of his tricycle.
“Upon noticing the approaching Police patrol van, the criminals took to their heels. The officers, undeterred and determined to prevent further harm, engaged in a hot pursuit. The suspects who managed to escape the scene in the process abandoned a black bag in the process. A thorough search of the bag led to the recovery of the following items: one Beretta pistol, one live ammunition, one cutlass, one knife, and assorted charms. Intensive efforts are already ongoing to apprehend the wanted suspects and bring them to justice,” Hundeyin stated.
The victim, who suffered machete wounds to his head and other parts of his body, was rushed by the police to the Lagos State Emergency Center, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has commended the patrol officers for their swift and courageous response. He assured Lagos residents of the Command’s continued commitment to ensuring safety and maintaining law and order across the state.
