Police Operatives from the Cross River State Police Command have foiled a kidnap attempt in Calabar South.

They arrested three suspects and recovered firearms.

Police spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo said the incident occurred when officers from Uwanse Division, acted on a tip-off.

Ugbo said the operatives intercepted a gang attempting to abduct one 38-year-old Nkereuwem Peter, at his Eneobong Avenue residence.

The suspects reportedly opened fire on sighting the police, sparking a gun duel that led to their arrest, while others escaped.

Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegbua warned criminal gangs to desist from unlawful activities, urging residents to provide timely intelligence to aid security operations.

He said efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices for prosecution.
