Police Confirm Boy Shot Dead By Imo Catholic Priest

A boy has been reportedly shot dead by a Catholic Priest on New Year’s Day for using fireworks (pyrotechnics) on his church premises.

The incident occurred Wednesday during the New Year’s mass at St. Columba’s Catholic Church in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area, Imo State.

The priest, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly picked up a firearm and fatally shot the victim over the use of the fireworks.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Imo State Police Command through its spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said the police have commenced an investigation on the matter.

“A detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain the remote facts surrounding the incident.

“Further development on the case will be communicated in due course,” Okoye said.
