The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cross-border motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered three stolen motorcycles during separate operations within Akko Local Government Area.

The arrests, confirmed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, followed a tip-off from a vigilant resident.

According to Abdullahi, operatives of Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madawaki, acted on the intelligence stormed a suspected criminal hideout at Tudun Hayin Kwarai in Misau district on July 7, 2025.

“Two suspects were arrested during the operation. They are Misba’u Adamu, 25, from Alkaleri LGA in Bauchi State, and Adamu Ibrahim, 28, from Garko LGA in Kano State,” he said.

The duo confessed to breaking into the home of one Mohammed Usman in Hayin Kwarin-Misau at about 4:00 a.m. on July 6 and stealing two motorcycles “a Qlink Cassie with registration number ABC 484 WN and a Hero Hunter with registration number GME 36 QL with a combined estimated value of ₦1.8 million.”

Abdullahi added that the stolen motorcycles were recovered from a location where they had been hidden in the premises of a man identified as Babangida, who is currently on the run. He assured that efforts to apprehend him, as well as the suspected leader of the syndicate and other fleeing accomplices are ongoing.

In a related development, police officers on routine night patrol recovered another motorcycle around 1:00 a.m. on the same day in Wuro Birji area of Akko LGA. An unidentified suspect abandoned a black Jincheng Kasea motorcycle with registration number DKU 099 UK after sighting the patrol team and fled the scene.

“Although the suspect managed to escape, the motorcycle has been taken into custody while investigations continue to identify the fleeing individual and locate the rightful owner,” Abdullahi stated.
