Police bust armed robbery syndicate, recover SUV, firearms in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has arrested suspected armed robbers, recovered a stolen Mercedes Benz GLK as well as multiple firearms and a cache of stolen valuables.
The operations, carried out between August 4 and 5, 2025, were led by the Divisional Police Officers of B Division Asaba and Ogwashi-Ukwu, working in concert with local vigilante groups.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, in a statement on Sunday, said on August 5, 2025, officers of B Division Asaba, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a suspected stolen Mercedes Benz GLK (Registration Number: NZM10AP) at a parking lot on former Deputy Governor Road, Asaba.
“The suspect, identified as Chinedu Eze, was apprehended while attempting to sell the vehicle to an unsuspecting buyer.
“Investigations revealed that the SUV had been violently snatched at gunpoint in April 2023 in Abakpa, Enugu State, during which the rightful owner was shot by armed robbers. The vehicle was fraudulently re-registered in 2025,” the statement said.
In a separate incident on August 4, 2025, around 4:30 a.m., police in Ogwashi-Ukwu responded to a distress call about armed robbers terrorising residents along Chelsea Street.
The DPO, CSP Okoyomon Israel, swiftly mobilised his Anti-Crime Squad and local vigilantes to the scene.
“Two suspects, Thywill Selvin (22) of Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and Guntim Bako (32) of Kwale Junction, were arrested after a failed escape attempt.
“One pump action rifle with one live cartridge, one Beretta pistol with six live rounds, three live assault rifle ammunition, two stolen motorcycles (Daylong, Reg No: SAP 369 VK; Qu link, Reg No: URM 750 QV), 25 mobile phones, four laptops, a tablet, a PS4 console, a home theatre, two music players, five bags of clothing and other valuables were recovered from them,” the statement added.
Edafe said some of the recovered items have been claimed by their owners.
