Police Arrest Woman For Allegedly Poisoning Lover, Fleeing With Car In Lagos Hotel

A 35-year-old woman, Adeola Adewale, has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old man, simply known as Mr. Adebayo, in a service apartment in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday night by the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred on March 27, when Adewale checked into a service apartment with the deceased.
A few hours later, she allegedly left the premises with Adebayo’s car and personal belongings, telling staff she would return shortly.
However, the next day, during a routine check, the lifeless body of the man was discovered inside the apartment.
Investigators recovered an empty syringe, two empty cans of malt drink, and two bottles of water at the scene.
The body was later taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) mortuary for autopsy.
After nearly a month of investigation, officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) apprehended Adewale on Saturday at about 9:30 p.m. in the Oko-Oba area of Lagos.
During interrogation, she confessed to poisoning the malt drink consumed by the deceased, which led to his death.
“Following detailed and painstaking investigation by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the suspect was apprehended at about 9:30 p.m. yesterday, 26th April 2025, at Oko-Oba, Lagos. The suspect identified herself as one Adeola Adewale, female, aged 35 years.
“During interrogation, Adeola Adewale confessed to administering a malt drink laced with a poisonous substance to the deceased, which ultimately led to his death. Further discreet investigation revealed the identity of the deceased as Mr. Adebayo, male, aged 65 years.
“The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to unravel further details surrounding the incident. Updates on this case will be provided in due course,” Hundeyin stated.
He said further investigation is ongoing to uncover more details surrounding the motive and any possible accomplices, adding that the suspect is currently in custody.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of the state.
