Operatives of the Delta State Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) have arrested suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, and gun runners in a series of operations across Delta, Rivers, and Kogi states.

The operations, led by ASP Julius Robinson, also led to the recovery of firearms, including AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, a Beretta pistol, and a significant cache of ammunition.

A statement by the police command revealed how, on March 26, CP-SAT operatives tracked and arrested a suspected kidnapper, Chedeye Mohammed, in Rivers.

Following interrogation, the suspect led officers to a bush near a trailer park, where they recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 13 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Investigations revealed that Mohammed and his gang were involved in kidnapping activities in Ughelli, Agbarho, and other parts of Delta State while using Rivers State as a hideout.

“Security agencies are currently working to apprehend other members of the gang,” the statement revealed.

In Kogi, the CP-SAT, acting on credible intelligence arrested three suspects: Zakari Mohammed (31), Ibrahim Mumuni (29), and Mohammed Hamisu (25).

The police noted that a search of their residences resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and an automatic pump-action gun.

Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Samaila Mohammed (35), of the Udo community in Dekina LGA.

“A Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and cartridges was recovered from him. All suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue,” the police noted.

Also on March 25, the CP-SAT operatives arrested Emu Lucky (35) in Olomoro community, Isoko South LGA, for allegedly supplying ammunition to kidnappers.

“A search of his residence led to the recovery of 82 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

“Preliminary investigations linked him to Mohammed Bellow, a suspected kidnapper currently in custody, who allegedly served as a middleman between gunrunners and criminal gangs,” the police added.

Consequently, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, assured residents that the police would sustain the momentum in combating crime and fulfilling their mandate of ensuring safety.

He also called for increased collaboration and support from members of the public in the fight against criminal activities.
