Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID–IRT) have arrested two notorious arms traffickers in Abinsi town, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The arrest was made on Wednesday after the police got reliable information about the suspects’ activities. One of those arrested is Adikwu Ikwulono, a well-known illegal arms dealer.

According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Friday, the officers recovered a rocket launcher, five AK-47 rifles, and thousands of rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition during the operation.

Police sources in Benue said the weapons were meant for a group of armed herders and bandits operating along the Benue–Nasarawa border.

“The group was reportedly planning coordinated attacks on several communities in Benue State.

“The suspects are now being interrogated by the police, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate,” Makama wrote.
