Police Arrest Four-Man Phone Snatching Gang In Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a four-man gang that allegedly specialises in robbing residents and students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University of phones and other valuables.
According to the command, its operatives intercepted the syndicate on August 25 while on routine patrol along the Agu Awka/Ifite Awka axis.
The suspects were identified as Nnaji Chidera, 19; Chijioke Mmaduabuchi, 21; Wisdom Ogbonna, 19; and Afamefuna Egbe, 20.
Upon interrogation, the police said the suspects confessed to being members of a syndicate targeting students within the Awka axis.
They admitted that the multiple tricycle plate numbers were used to disguise their operational vehicles during armed robbery operations.
Recovered, the suspects include nine phones, a laptop, two tricycles with registration numbers LSD 464 QP and BLF 552 VH, four different tricycle plate numbers and a substance suspected to be hard drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, while commending the operatives, warned criminals that the Command would continue to ensure offenders face the full weight of the law.
He also urged youths in the state to shun crime and embrace meaningful ventures.
“The suspects are in custody and will be charged in court upon completion of investigations,” the police said.
