Police Arrest Five For Snatching, Selling Car In Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the armed robbery and sale of a Toyota Corolla sedan for N500,000.
The suspects were apprehended following a swift investigation led by detectives from the Ilasan Division.
According to the police, the incident occurred on August 1, 2025, when a taxi driver reported that three men posing as passengers flagged him down along Platinum Way in the Jakande area of Lekki.
During the trip, one of the suspects brandished a locally made pistol and forced the driver out of the vehicle, after which the group drove off with the black Toyota Corolla.
A statement released on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed the identities of the arrested suspects as Favour Sunday (25), Ikot Moses (28), Dickson Ighobue Harrison (35), Joshua Adedamola (27), and Daniel Jonathan (26).
Further investigation led officers to the buyer of the stolen car, Wasiu Arinola (40), who was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Arinola reportedly dismantled the stolen vehicle and sold the parts separately.
Hundeyin said efforts are ongoing to recover the pistol used in the robbery and trace other vehicles the syndicate may have stolen and sold.
“Following investigation and intelligence-led operations, the detectives arrested five suspects: Favour Sunday, aged 25; Ikot Moses, aged 28; Dickson Ighobue Harrison, aged 35; Joshua Adedamola, aged 27 and Daniel Jonathan, aged 26.
“Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was sold for N500,000 to one Wasiu Arinola, aged 40, who dismantled the car and sold the parts separately.
“He was later arrested in Ibadan. Efforts are ongoing to recover the pistol used in the robbery, trace other vehicles disposed of by the syndicate, and prosecute all the suspects accordingly,” he said.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassured residents that the Command will continue to prioritise their safety and security.
He also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities and provide useful information to aid police operations.
