Police Arrest Ex-Convict Fleeing To Ondo With Stolen Motorcycle
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old ex-convict, Segun Akinola, who confessed to stealing his friend’s bicycle in the middle of the night with the intention of riding it all the way to Ondo State.
According to a statement, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol along the Third Mainland Bridge apprehended Akinola at about 2:00 a.m. on Friday.
Suspicious of his movement, officers stopped him and questioned him.
In a shocking confession, Akinola told the police: “I woke up past 12:00 a.m. and I stole my friend’s bicycle. I am riding it to Ondo State.”
Following his confession, the RRS operatives proceeded to Muslim Road, Banana Island, where Akinola claimed to have stolen the bicycle.
There, they found his friend still asleep at a bus stop around 2:27 a.m. The friend confirmed the theft.
Earlier that same morning, another RRS patrol team arrested a suspected vandal, Mohammed Ibraheem, 25, on Alfred Rilwane Road by Glover Road in Ikoyi.
He was caught with five folded protective mesh used to guide road medians. His accomplice reportedly fled on sighting the police.
Both Akinola and Ibraheem have been arraigned in court, and the bicycle is expected to be returned to its owner upon the conclusion of prosecution.
