The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an ex-convict, Onamade Kayode, for allegedly brandishing a locally made gun and threatening residents at the Sabon Kasuwa area of Abule Eko.

The suspect, who was arrested on Monday, by operatives of the Ijede Division, was traced to an uncompleted building where he was apprehended.

Investigations revealed that Kayode, who was released from prison in 2022 for cultism-related offences, is still an active member of a cult group.

He admitted to possessing the firearm and led police operatives to a toilet pipe in the building where the weapon was concealed.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspect is cooperating with investigations aimed at apprehending other cult members and recovering more weapons.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect, who was released from prison in 2022 for cultism related offences, is still an active member of a cult group.

“He admitted to having a firearm and led the operatives to a toilet pipe within the uncompleted building from where the firearm was recovered.

“The suspect is currently cooperating with ongoing investigations to apprehend other cult members and recover weapons in their possession, after which he will be prosecuted accordingly,” Hundeyin said.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their swift response and urged residents to remain law-abiding, avoid involvement in cultism, and continue assisting the police with useful information to rid communities of criminal elements.

THE WHISTLER reports that operatives of the Command recently arrested six suspected members of a cult group in connection with the brutal murder of a man identified as Kamoru, popularly known as “Keeper,” during a violent cult clash in the Ebute Meta area of the state.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by detectives attached to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Surulere, on July 17.

The suspects were identified as Raphael Ashim (30), Wasiu Kareem (33), Sadiq Olabisi (40), Olamilekan Oluwatosin (27), Olalekan Olugbodi (54), and Ibrahim Oladimeji (22).
