Police Arrest 98 Kidnapping, Drug Trafficking Suspects

Drugs and Supplies Recovered During The Operation Kukan Kura Raid

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, on Thursday announced the arrest of 98 suspects linked to 21 major criminal cases as part of a new coordinated offensive dubbed Operation Kukan Kura.

Bakori, who addressed journalists in Kano, said the special operation commenced on July 1, 2025, following a demographic analysis of the state’s security trends in the third quarter of the year.

The operation targeted crimes in the Kano metropolis. Within 24 days of commencement, the Command made arrests spanning armed robbery, drug peddling, motor vehicle theft, and fraud.

According to Bakori, operatives recovered a cache of weapons, drugs, stolen vehicles, counterfeit currency, and other criminal tools during the operation.

He said, “Four suspected kidnappers; 21 suspected armed robbers; Five suspected drug dealers; 12 suspected motor vehicle thieves; Four suspected fraudsters; Five suspected thieves and 47 suspected thugs”

Items recovered during the raids included: “Six motor vehicles; Eight (08) Tricycles; Ten motorcycles; 42 tubes of red solutions; 35 parcels; 1123 wraps of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa; 86 bottles of suck and die; 30 sachets and 43 pieces of Exol tablets; ten sachets and 53 pieces of diazepam tablets; 16 cutlasses and 98 knives; $10,000 counterfeit; 13 mobile phones; Five motor batteries and three motor spare tyres.”

Bakori commended the public’s cooperation and encouraged residents to remain vigilant.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
