Police Arrest 288 Suspected Thugs In Kano Elections
The Kano State Police Command, on Saturday, said 288 suspected thugs were arrested at the ongoing re-run and by-elections in Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono State Constituencies respectively.
The Kano Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said one pump-action rifle, four locally made guns, dangerous weapons such as bows and arrows, cutlasses, knives, stones, catapults, clubs, and others were recovered from the suspect.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said, “As part of the clearance operations spearheaded by the ICCES, a total of 288 suspected thugs were arrested today, Saturday, August 16, 2025, for various electoral offences aimed at disrupting the election process.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include: one pump action rifle, our locally made guns, dangerous weapons such as bows and arrows, cutlasses, knives, stones, catapults, clubs, and others”.
Bakori said the suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify their sponsors and collaborators.
“The Command assures the public that all individuals found culpable will be prosecuted under the law.
“All forms of electoral manipulation, violence, and malpractice will not be tolerated” he concluded.
Bakori further urged members of the public to be law-abiding and to cooperate fully with security agencies.
