Police Arrest 210, Secure 86 Convictions in Borno
The Borno State Police Command has arrested 210 suspects and secured the conviction of 86 individuals during a week-long operation across the state.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmakid disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing held at the command headquarters.
He explained that the arrests followed a series of intelligence-led operations conducted between June 11 and June 18, 2025.
These included targeted raids, surveillance, stop-and-search exercises, and coordinated enforcement actions.
Abdulmakid emphasised the importance of collaborating with local communities to combat crimes such as phone snatching, thuggery, youth gangsterism, and other social vices.
“In line with that commitment, the Command under my leadership arrested 210 suspects,” he stated.
“Out of that number, 86 have been convicted, while 124 remain under investigation.”
He listed the items recovered during the operations, including, “58 sachets of tramadol; 175 pieces of exzol tablet; 130 D5 tablets; 395 wraps and a kilogram of dried leaves suspected to be indian hemp; nine knives; 19 shisha pots and pipes; two customized antelope horn; 28 tablets Ermo (hard drugs) and ten bottles of syrup” we recovered.
The Commissioner credited the success of the operations to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) – Social Vices Unit, a joint task force comprising police personnel and other security agencies in the state.
He commended the dedication of the officers involved and acknowledged the support of the Borno State Government under Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for equipping the RRS-Social Vices Unit.
“I commend the unwavering commitment and bravery of our officers,” he said.
“We also appreciate the Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice for enabling the swift prosecution and conviction of suspects by the law.”
Abdulmakid warned, “Under my watch, the Borno State Police Command will not tolerate any form of criminal activity.
“I strongly advise all those involved in illicit and clandestine operations to desist immediately or face the full force of the law.”
He called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities and sharing timely, actionable information.
