A gruesome murder was committed on Friday, February 28, 2025, in Ogoloma street, off Chinda in Mile 4, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Suspected cultists, allegedly loyal to a Deywell cult leader, stabbed a young man, Aleruchi Samuel, also known as Bigi, to death.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspected cultists had arrived at the scene, attempting to forcefully take Bigi to their “barrack” over a disputed land issue. The victim, who was in his mid-20s, was erecting a fence on the disputed land when the cultists attacked him.
Sources revealed that one of the suspected cultists stabbed Bigi on the neck when he resisted their attempts to take him away. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The community youths, sympathetic to Bigi’s family, went on a rampage upon hearing the news of his death. The situation was brought under control by the timely intervention of the police.
The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident in an interview. “Yes, I can confirm the incident. It has to do with a disputed land where they were erecting a fence. A woman went to call unknown persons who stabbed the man on his neck.”
