Plateau: NEMA conducts on-the-spot assessment in flood-ravaged communities

The Jos Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of flood-ravaged communities in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.

This followed a recent windstorm that destroyed over 50 houses and several hectares of rice farms, which were washed away by flood.

The NEMA team which was led by the Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Mrs. Judith Bai, visited the affected villages which include Shimankar, Kalong, Anguwan Dadi, Unguwan Yargam, Wali, Gisa and Unguwan Zam.

During the visit, the Village Head of Shemankkat, HRH Miskoom Maurice M. Danjuma, who received the team in his palace, lamented that the incident which occurred on Sunday, 3rd August 2025, has affected the people and their sources of livelihood.

The community head called on NEMA, the state and federal governments, as well as relevant bodies, to come to their aid to enable them bounce back.

Also speaking during the visit, the Secretary of the Local Government, Chris Nettiem, who represented the Chairman, Kemi Nicholas Nshe, commended NEMA for its prompt response to the disaster and assured the council of its continued partnership in addressing the plight of the affected communities.

The assessment was undertaken by NEMA officials in collaboration with officials from the Shendam LGA and the Local Government Emergency Management Committee, LEMC.
