Ahead of the forthcoming local government elections, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially flagged off the campaign for the Plateau South Senatorial District Local Government elections, amidst jubilation and widespread optimism.

The Governor emphasised that the forthcoming elections would pave the way for the much-needed development of rural communities in the state.

Mutfwang reaffirmed the citizen’s deep connection with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, a party that he said represents hope and a prosperous future for the state.

While expressing gratitude to the Southern Zone for the overwhelming support he received during the 2023 elections, he called on them to replicate the same support in the upcoming local government elections slated for October 9, 2024.

The Governor outlined his administration’s dedication to improving infrastructure in the Southern Senatorial Zone.

He announced the approval of a substantial amount of money for the provision of electricity, alongside ongoing efforts to ensure potable water supply and a durable road network.

Mutfwang also reassured the citizenry of his commitment to running an all-inclusive government.

“Let me make it clear that individuals who contested various positions and were unsuccessful would not be left out, as this administration is determined to involve everyone in governance.

The governor urged the people of Plateau South to rally behind the PDP in the upcoming local government elections to usher in a new era of tangible democratic dividends for the district.

“I want to assure you that my administration is fully committed to delivering on its promises; by the grace of God, I will journey with you throughout this administration.”

The Governor emphasised that the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC is poised to conduct free, fair, and credible elections, and pledged to restore the era of transparent elections in the state.

He equally presented flags to all the PDP Chairmanship candidates in the zone.

In his remarks, the PDP Zonal Vice Chairman, North Central Zone, Dakas Shan, expressed confidence that Plateau South remains a stronghold of the PDP, predicting a sweeping victory in both the Chairmanship and Councilorship seats across the 17 local government areas.

Earlier, Governor Mutfwang paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Miskoom Martin Sheldas III, the Long Gamai of the Gamai Nation and Chairman of the Shendam Traditional Council.

The Governor expressed his gratitude for the traditional ruler’s support during the 2023 elections and thanked God for his healing and recovery.

He appealed for continued support ahead of the local government elections to foster development in the Council Area.

In response, His Royal Highness, Miskoom Martin Sheldas III, thanked the Governor for the visit and reaffirmed the commitment of the people of Shendam LGA to support the Governor’s transformative political ideology.
