Petroleum Varsity Confers Doctorate Degree On Komolafe For Oil & Gas Industry Reforms
The Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has received an honorary doctorate from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) for his transformation of the country’s oil and gas sector.
The institution said the NUPRC boss had made remarkable contributions in his field.
FUPRE conferred on Engr. Gbenga Komolafe an Honorary Doctor of Engineering.
Other accomplished businessmen and professionals like the Chairman of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote and Engineer Bajomo were also awarded various honorary doctorate degrees.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ezekiel Ogheneyerovwo Agbalagba, hailed Komolafe for his exceptional contribution to the commission.
Agbalagba said the Komolafe-led NUPRC has revolutionised the country’s oil and gas sector by using effective regulation to improve efficiency.
He lauded Komolafe and other awardees for their leadership and impact on Nigeria’s economy.
Komolafe took over the NUPRC as the pioneer CCE in 2021 following the creation of the commission by the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021.
Under Komolafe, Nigeria’s crude oil production has made a great comeback to 1.75 million barrels per day after falling below one mbpd.
The NUPRC has increased rig counts from 18 in 2019 to 38 in 2024.
NUPRC has developed a new Domestic Gas Delivery Obligation (DGDO) algorithm that is reflective of current infrastructure and
commercial realities and successful transition of the administration of Fiscal Oil Prices and commenced the publication of market-reflective Fiscal Oil Prices (FOP) differentials on NUPRC’s website in line with the transparency objectives.
The commission has also eliminated entry barriers associated with huge asset acquisition fees, which will promote ease of entry and investment retention.
