Why does Obi avoid party primaries? Critics, analysts differ

Kano State Government has said that former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, may face difficulty gaining political support in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Director General, Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, made the statement on Wednesday while speaking on national political developments.

He said Kano remains a politically conservative state where voter behaviour is shaped by long-standing ideological and regional considerations.

According to him, such factors may limit the chances of politicians whose support base is stronger in other parts of the country.

“Peter Obi may not find it easy to gain ground in Kano politics because the political environment here is shaped by deep-rooted beliefs and long-established political structures,” he said.

Bature added that discussions around the 2027 elections have already begun generating different narratives across the country, including predictions about how various presidential candidates may perform in different regions.

He insisted that political acceptance in Kano is influenced more by loyalty, ideology, and regional alignment than popularity alone.
