People Are Getting Poorer, Nigeria On Brink Of Collapse – Obi
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, has warned that Nigerians are becoming increasingly impoverished, with the country’s economic situation spiraling out of control.
Speaking at the ongoing Labour Party’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi stated that Nigeria is on the verge of collapse, citing alarming statistics that show people are struggling to make ends meet.
“We must speak out when things are going wrong. Nigeria is collapsing. The numbers are clear; the indices are clear—people are getting poorer every day,” Obi said.
Obi emphasised the need for unity and inclusivity within the party, picturing a party that is fair, just, and open to all, where members work together as a family.
“The Labour Party has chosen to be a family, and we must do everything as a family. It’s not about Peter Obi’s choice; it’s everyone’s choice. This family excludes no one. We want to build a party that is fair and just,” he said.
He also outlined the party’s strategy for future elections, stressing the need for competent candidates who are committed to the party’s values and ideals.
The goal, he said, is to offer Nigerians a better alternative and create a more prosperous future for the country.
“We want to go into the next election fully prepared, offering Nigerians the best and most competent candidates for the House of Representatives, the Senate, governorships, and the presidency.
“We want to correct the mistakes we made in the past. Anyone seeking to contest under our party must be a committed member, not just someone passing through. They must be competent,” he said.
